There is another reason why Milan must hope to finish in the top eight of the Serie A table this season, as failure would mean a very early Coppa Italia start next term.
The Rossoneri are currently ninth in the standings following 14 wins, nine draws and 10 defeats.
Their chances of qualifying for even the Conference League via the Serie A table are very slim now, so winning the Coppa Italia would at least give them a ticket to the Europa League for 2025-26.
Milan need to grab eighth place in Serie A
However, there is another factor to be taken into consideration, because the top eight in Serie A are allowed to enter the Coppa Italia fray from the Round of 16.
If Milan finish ninth, then they will have to start their participation in the Coppa Italia in the third round, which will be played in August.
Considering Sergio Conceicao’s record and contract situation, it is more than likely that will be the first competitive match under their new coach for the 2025-26 campaign.
