Anthony Gordon set tongues wagging during Newcastle’s 2-0 victory over Arsenal on Tuesday night as he recreated Thierry Henry‘s iconic celebration. 

Eddie Howe‘s side shocked the Gunners in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final at the Emirates thanks to goals from the in-form Alexander Isak and Gordon.

However, it was after the winger’s goal that fans noticed what the Newcastle star had done.

It came when he tucked home having reacted first after David Raya saved a shot from Isak on 51 minutes.

Having seen his effort hit the back of the net, Gordon ran along the touchline to celebrate in front of the buoyant travelling supporters.

As the fans lapped up their side being 2-0 up, Gordon put one arm on his hip and rested the other on the corner flag.

It brought back memories to the celebration that Arsenal and France legend Henry used to do during his time in the game.

Henry netted 226 goals during eight years with the Gunners and became associated with the move whenever he netted for the north London outfit and also for France. 

And fans were quick to comment on Gordon’s celebration as they shared their thoughts on social media.

One said: ‘Anthony Gordon was cold as hell for pulling out the Thierry Henry celebration at the Emirates.’

Another added: ‘The Emirates has fallen,’ before a further fan chimed in with: ‘That was so cool.’

Speaking after the game, Howe was full of praise for his side as he said: ‘I’m very pleased for the players as that was a tough game for us in many different respects.

‘We’ve had an intense period of games with near enough the same group of players and I’m really pleased with the way we defended.

‘We rode our luck a little bit at times and I think our goalkeeper played really well. In the main I think we got the small details right and I’m really pleased with the result.’
