Antony’s Real Betis unveiling video slammed as possibly ‘the WORST’ in history by fans after making loan switch from Man United

Antony‘s unveiling video for Real Betis is potentially the worst in history. 

That’s the verdict of fans who have seen the LaLiga club produce a ‘school project’-level video to reveal the Manchester United star on loan for the rest of the season.

Transfer announcement videos have become Hollywood-style epics in the modern era, often with enormous casts and thousands of pounds splashed on production. 

And while Betis made a top effort for some of their content surrounding Antony’s arrival, they appeared to cut a few corners in a video released on Sunday. 

The low-budget affair shows the winger hidden behind a stack of images of him in the kit of each team he has played for, with his torso and top of his head still visible.

A member of staff removes the pictures of him at Sao Paulo, Ajax, Brazil, and Manchester United before ‘revealing’ Antony, who says ‘aqui estoy yo’ – ‘here I am’. Fans have been left slack-jawed by the cheapness of it. 

They removed a few pictures of him in front of his face before he declared ‘I’m here’ in Spanish

‘This has to be one of the worst unveilings in football history,’ wrote one fan on X. 

‘Looks like someone did it in their bedroom for a school project,’ said another.  

‘I feel like any footballer with a brain would have said “no way” when they brought out the printed cards and explained what they wanted to do here,’ one commented. 

‘What would you expect… They blew up their entire budget for the season to get him there, so the marketing department had to be very creative,’ another said.  

One quipped: ‘Man it was so intense waiting to see who was stood behind the pictures!!!’

Some could scarcely believe it had come from Betis’ verified account. ‘This cannot be the original video,’ one wrote. 

Whether a deliberate ploy or not, Betis will argue that it has worked wonders because the video has been liked almost one million times on Instagram. 

Betis, who sit 10th in LaLiga and are managed by former Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini, will pay 84 per cent of Antony’s £200,000 salary – £168,000, if you don’t want to do the maths.

United will be hoping he can reinvigorate his career as Jadon Sancho did at Borussia Dortmund last season. Antony failed to make a league start under Ruben Amorim. 

There was much expectation when Antony arrived at United from Ajax in 2022 for £86million, hailed as a wonderkid who Erik ten Hag could get the most out of. 

However, the move didn’t go to plan as he struggled to make a consistent impact and eventually fell out of favour.

In total, Antony made 96 appearances for United and scored 12 goals, while he provided five assists.

He won the FA Cup with United last season to add to the League Cup from the previous campaign.

In the long term Antony will be looking to get back in the Brazil squad, having not featured for his nation since March 2023.

Betis did honour him with more creative unveiling content.

In one surreal video, the Seville-based club paid tribute to director David Lynch with a video referencing his films Lost Highway, Eraser Head and Blue Velvet, as well as Twin Peaks. 

In another Antony performed his infamous spiining skill move in their Benito Villamarin stadium. 

Upon seeing the pitch for the first time, he said: ‘Oh my God, so beautiful. I’m really happy.

‘Let’s go Betis. I’m looking forward to play here.’
