Arne Slot has made his first appointment as Liverpool‘s new manager, by making Ruben Peeters the club’s new physical performance coach.

Slot will takeover from Jurgen Klopp when he officially becomes the Reds new manager on June 1, and brings with him a key member of his inner circle to the club.

The Dutchman worked with Peeters both at Genk and Feyenoord, and is his first appointment since being confirmed as Liverpool’s new boss.

According to his agency, Peeters’ role will be that of first team lead physical performance coach, an overlap on the jobs previously undertaken by Andreas Kornmayer and Andreas Schlumberger before they left the club this summer.

Peeters will be charged with working on DNA epigenetic, microbiology manipulations and how sleep improves performance with the club’s players.

Peeters, will join Slot’s coaching set-up, which is also set to include Sipke Hulshoff, who will join from Feyenoord to serve as his number two.

Hulshoff did hold the same position as the Netherlands assistant boss, but has vacated the role in preparation for his move to Merseyside.

They won’t be the only new arrivals at Anfield either, with the club having already advertised for a first-team physiotherapist, as well as a physical performance coach focused on strength and conditioning.

Liverpool are also looking for a new specialist set-piece coach as they look to employ a specialist in the role. Previously those were part of the duties served by coach Peter Krawietz under Klopp.

The new coaching set-up will be tasked with following in the daunting footsteps of Jurgen Klopp’s successful reign as Liverpool boss.

In nine years at the club the German won every major honour, including the Reds first league title for 30 years in 2020.

Klopp signed off from his tenure with an emotional final day at Anfield, where his side beat Wolves 2-0 before saying a farewell to the fans.
