Arne Slot says he is having sleepless nights ahead of the visit of Paris Saint-Germain and insists Liverpool must put in their performance of the season to progress in Tuesday night’s Champions League last-16 second leg.

The Reds pulled off a famous smash-and-grab in the French capital last week with a late Harvey Elliott goal sealing a 1-0 victory after an onslaught from PSG which saw them rack up 27 shots and force goalkeeper Alisson into what he described as the best display of his life.

And ahead of a season-defining week for Liverpool, in which they also play the Carabao Cup final against Newcastle on Sunday, Slot said: ‘In a week like this I do not dream at all. I just know I have to work really, really, really hard to prepare the team in the best possible way.

‘If you have a game like we did last week, you feel like, “Can I even go to sleep at all? Or do I have to watch even more?” So no, I do not dream at all at the moment about this week.

‘This is the most complete team we have faced so far. What I mean with complete is that, OK we have faced Arsenal and City and they are not big margins but the intensity they play at combined with the quality they have and they are one of the richest clubs.

‘They have so much quality and a great, great, great manager (Luis Enrique). It is not easy to play against his team, he brings the best out of every player and brings an incredible workrate in the team.’
