Liverpool manager Arne Slot has his sights on landing Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni after missing out on Marc Guehi.
Guehi underwent a medical with the Reds last summer, but a transfer did not materialise after Palace pulled the plug on the deal at the last minute.
The Englishman recently entered the last six months of his contract and reports claim that Manchester City have now won the race to sign him.
The Reds did not make an approach for him this winter, and Teamtalk claim that Slot now has his sights on landing Bastoni from Inter at the end of the season.
Bastoni is highly rated by the Dutch tactician. He has been a vital figure in the Nerrazurri ranks, but could be permitted to leave for around £69 million.
The Italian centre-back has also been linked with Manchester United in the past, and there could be a possible bidding war for his services next summer.
