Arsenal and Liverpool target Joshua Kimmich has finally signed a new deal with Bayern Munich, just four months before his previous contract was set to expire.

The German international has brought an ended to speculation about his future, after several Premier League clubs, as well as Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain, had expressed interest in his services.

Previously, it was understood that the Bundesliga giants’ contract offer was withdrawn after Kimmich hesitated to provide a response.

Several German outlets followed with reports that the 30-year-old captain was demanding a higher salary than the one  being offered.

After reports emerged that Bayern would not increase their offer and had set a deadline for Kimmich’s return to the table, the German star has finally prolonged his deal.

On Thursday, the Bundesliga side announced that Kimmich extended his contract until the summer of 2029.

This season marks the 10th year since the 30-year-old moved to Munich from RB Leipzig, during which he has played over 400 games and won 20 trophies.

Bayern president Herbert Hainer said: ‘Compliments to our sporting management and our board. FC Bayern needs players who not only bear the shirt but also responsibility – on and off the pitch. And Joshua Kimmich is one of those players.’

In the video announcing the big news, Kimmich plants a tree – symbolising the deep-rooted relationship between them now – while he delivers a motivational speech.

‘What does it take to be successful at Bayern? You have to work hard,’ he said.

‘Weather the storm sometimes. Be rooted in this club. And you have to want something to last. That’s exactly why I’m staying here.’

Furthermore, on the club’s website, the 30-year-old added:  ‘At FC Bayern I have the best environment to achieve my sporting goals. That is what my decision was based on.

‘For me at the moment, there is no better package of team-mates, coaching staff and club environment in order to achieve maximum success. I feel at home here and I am not finished yet.’
