The high-profile suitors of Tijjani Reijnders are set to be disappointed as talks with AC Milan over a new contract are entering the final stages, according to Italian media.

The Dutchman is on a spectacular run of form at the moment. While many Milan players have been slow to grasp the ideas of new coach Paulo Fonseca, Reijnders has had no such difficulties.

The Netherlands international has become his coach’s brain on the pitch and he is proving increasingly crucial even in the attack. Reijnders has netted six goals from midfield this season and all of them have come in his previous seven games for the Rossoneri.

The 26-year-old notched a brace against Empoli at the weekend and Italian media continues to wax lyrical about the classy midfielder. Reijnders has previously been described as almost ‘flawless,’ a player who ‘never makes a mistake.

This has, naturally, also attracted the interest of the Premier League’s big hitters.

Reijnders to stay at Milan

In recent weeks, the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool have been linked with the Dutchman. Arsenal could be in the market for a midfielder due to the likes of Thomas Partey, Jorginho and even summer signing Mikel Merino being on the more experienced end of the age spectrum.

The interest from Liverpool‘s side is primarily said to be driven by Arne Slot, who intimately knows Reijnders from his time in the Eredivisie and who was a teammate of his father during his playing days in the 1990s.

Unfortunately for the Reds and the Gunners, a transfer is highly unlikely. AC Milan are in talks with Reijnders over a bumper new contract to reflect his importance to the team and Italian media reports that a final agreement is very close indeed.

Gazzetta dello Sport claims that the deal is ’90 per cent’ wrapped up already and that the Rossoneri are not even entertaining the thought of selling the Netherlands international, nor is Reijnders interested in leaving.
