Arsenal have been handed a major boost after their captain Martin Odegaard was spotted back in training on Tuesday morning.

Odegaard has been out of action since the September international break after picking up an injury while playing for Norway, and the Gunners have struggled in his absence.

Mikel Arteta‘s men have failed to win any of their last three league matches, and were beaten 1-0 at Newcastle on Saturday to fall seven points behind leaders Liverpool.

But they could have Odegaard back in their team when they face Inter Milan at San Siro on Wednesday night.

Odegaard joined the first team squad on Tuesday, with Arteta likely to give an update on his skipper’s availability at his press conference later today.

Declan Rice was not involved at the start of Tuesday’s session, but it is understood that his condition is not a major concern.

There was also no Riccardo Calafiori, Takehiro Tomiyasu or Kieran Tierney, with the trio expected to return after the November international break.

Odegaard’s return is some much-needed good news for Arsenal, who have also been rocked by the departure of sporting director Edu.

The Brazilian confirmed his resignation on Monday after five years at the Emirates, and is now expected to front Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis’s multi-club operation.

Arsenal face an uncertain period off the pitch, and have been some way from their fluent best on it this season.

Odegaard is viewed as one of the side’s most creative influences, though, and could help bring about an upturn in fortunes.

The 25-year-old has registered 23 goals and 17 assists in his last two Premier League campaigns, with Arsenal pushing Manchester City close in consecutive titles races.

He is now back at a pivotal point in Arsenal’s season, with Arteta’s team also set to travel to Chelsea for a crucial league match on Sunday before the international break.
