Arsenal could pounce as Nkunku reaches ‘point of no return’ at Chelsea

The relationship between Christopher Nkunku and Chelsea is broken beyond repair, according to a report.

The Frenchman is ready to quit the Blues this summer after failing to secure a transfer away in January. His disappointing career at Chelsea hit its lowest point last week as he was omitted for the clash with Fulham due to ‘technical’ reasons.

According to RMC journalist Fabrice Hawkins, a ‘point of no return’ has been reached and Nkunku is almost guaranteed to force through a move in the upcoming window.

The 27-year-old is expected to be reinstated for this weekend’s clash with Everton, but this will do little to mend the rift between the club and the player. Since failing to get his winter move, Nkunku’s performances have been underwhelming, which is a clear sign of his frustration.

Bayern were hot on his trail in January, but they ultimately baulked at Chelsea’s whopping €70 million asking price. The Bavarians are likely to return for Nkunku in the summer, but there could also be a surprise suitor.

Arsenal interested in Nkunku?

Hawkins, somewhat unexpectedly, states that Arsenal also held an interest in the France international in January, having identified him as a potential reinforcement given their attacking injuries.

It is well-known that Man Utd enquired about Nkunku in the winter, but links with Arsenal have been few and far between, so this is a surprising revelation.

Arsenal remain keen to bolster their frontline, and Hawkins claims that, like Bayern, the Gunners ‘are expected to return to the fray this summer’ for Nkunku.

Arsenal have signed several players from Chelsea in recent seasons, namely Jorginho and Kai Havertz, but a move for Nkunku would come as a shock. In Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko, the North London giants seem to have much more convincing and exciting attacking targets.
