Arsenal in bid for Frenkie de Jong

According to Spanish media outlet Fichajes, Barcelona midfielder Frenkie De Jong is a target for Arsenal, as the Dutchman enters the final year of his contract with the La Liga giants. The 28-year-old has been with Barca since 2019, played 177 times in the Spanish top flight and scored 14 goals, but is said to be considering a move to England.

Arsenal have been busy in the transfer market signing Martin Zubimendi and Viktor Gyokeres, but their transfer business may not yet be done as the Gunners believe de Jong could be brought to the Emirates in a cut price deal as the Dutch international winds down his contract.

Barcelona are open to a sale, and would be willing to accept around 25 million euros to allow the player an early exit from his contract.

De Jong was an influential of the club’s squad as they went on to win both La Liga and Copa Del Rey last season, but is known to be open to a new challenge if the right offer presents itself. Arsenal have an outstanding midfield already, but wish to add more new faces, and could even offer Mikel Merino in exchange for a deal before the transfer window closes.
