Arsenal have reportedly joined the race to sign Olympique Lyonnais winger Malick Fofana before the end of the summer transfer window.
The 20-year-old has been heavily linked with a Premier League switch in recent weeks and Arsenal have now registered their interest in his services as they look to bolster the attacking options at Mikel Arteta’s disposal.
The Gunners have seemingly ended their pursuit of Real Madrid superstar Rodrygo, but they remain eager to sign a new left winger and Fofana has been earmarked as a potential alternative to Crystal Palace talisman Eberechi Eze. However, they will face significant competition from Liverpool for his signature.
That is according to renowned X account IndyKaila, who posted on social media: “Arsenal officials made a trip to France on Friday night to chat with Lyon about Malick Fofana.
“This comes on the heels of Liverpool also having discussions with Lyon a few weeks back.
“It’s clear that Fofana is a hot commodity right now, and both clubs are keen to get him on board. Arsenal’s interest adds another layer to this transfer saga, and it’s exciting to see how this will unfold.”
Fofana scored 11 goals and provided six assists in 41 appearances across all competitions last season, and his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) currently stands at €38.2 million.
Chelsea miss out on Malick Fofana
Chelsea were heavily linked with the Frenchman back in June and they lodged an official enquiry to Lyon in an attempt to reach a transfer agreement, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein.
However, the Blues failed to finalise a deal with Lyon and they look set to miss out on his signature. Instead, Enzo Maresca’s side are focused on signing Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho and RB Leipzig attacking midfielder Xavi Simons.
Everton have also been linked with a summer move for Fofana, however they have turned their attention to securing the signings of Jack Grealish and Tyler Dibling.
