Arsenal receive unexpected Max Dowman exit threat

Arsenal wonderkid Max Dowman is reportedly one of several England youngsters being closely watched by Real Madrid ahead of the 2026 summer transfer window.

The 16-year-old is regarded as one of the top talents in world football and he has already made five senior appearances for Arsenal after breaking into the club’s first-team set-up over the past few months.

Real Madrid are eager to repeat the success of Jude Bellingham’s transfer from Borussia Dortmund by targeting the next crop of youngsters and Dowman has subsequently been earmarked as a top target, according to TEAMtalk.

The teenager has caught the eye of Real Madrid officials in recent months, with Archie Gray, Josh Acheampong, Jesse Derry, Ethan Nwaneri, Nico O’Reilly, Mateus Mane and Jobe Bellingham, the younger brother of Jude, also on Los Blancos’ radar.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has been criticised for his refusal to hand Myles Lewis-Skelly and Nwaneri significant first-team action in 2025-26 and some fans are concerned that Dowman may follow suit over the next few years.

However, despite Real Madrid’s interest in Dowman, the Englishman has already signed a pre-contract agreement with Arsenal ahead of his 17th birthday later this year, meaning his deal will become a professional one in December.

Speaking after confirmation of the pre-contract agreement, Dowman told the club’s official website: “This means everything to me and my family.

“We all support Arsenal and I really feel like I belong here. I’d like to thank all my coaches, teammates and, most importantly, my family and friends, who have got me to where I am today.

“I’ve been at the club my whole life, so this really means a lot. There’s such a clear pathway here, players who have come through our academy, like Bukayo [Saka], Myles [Lewis-Skelly] and Ethan [Nwaneri], who all really inspire me.

“It’s amazing to have role models so close that have experienced the same thing that I have. I’m now so excited to continue to work hard with my development.”

Verdict: Will Max Dowman join Real Madrid?

While Real Madrid’s interest in Dowman will come as no surprise given his immense talent, a move to the Bernabeu is unlikely to take place anytime soon.

He is still only 16 years old and having committed his future to Arsenal, Dowman will not be departing the north London giants for the time being.

A move in the future could be on the cards, although Dowman will first look to establish himself as a regular in the Arsenal first-team.
