Former Arsenal forward Mika Biereth has admitted that re-joining the club “would be fantastic” following his exit this summer.

The 21-year-old joined Sturm Graz on a permanent deal for €4.7 million in August, having enjoyed a successful loan stint at the club last season, and although he is enjoying his time in Austria, Biereth has shared his thoughts on an Arsenal return.

“Things are going well in Sturm Graz. I have nothing to complain about right now,” he told Danish outlet TV2.

“I play every week at a good level, and now we also play in the Champions League, where I’m still waiting for my first goal.

“If I keep playing well and scoring goals, hopefully a change can come, but right now I’m focused on Sturm and on doing well and scoring goals.

“A return back to Arsenal would be fantastic, but it’s not something I’m focusing on right now.”

Biereth has seven goals and one assist in eight league games so far this season and he is currently the top goalscorer in the Austrian Bundesliga.

Despite his desire to return to Arsenal, he never made a first-team appearance for the club and was instead loaned out to RKC Waalwijk, Motherwell and then Sturm Graz during his time at the Emirates Stadium.

Mika Biereth: The next Rasmus Hojlund?

Manchester United forward Rasmus Hojlund spent six months at Sturm Graz before joining Atalanta in 2022 and Biereth has been frequently compared to the Denmark international since his arrival at the club.

“The fans see a lot of similarities, and that can only mean that I’m doing things right,” Biereth replied when asked about comparisons with Hojlund.

“When he came to Sturm Graz, he was there for a short time and then his career took off. When people compare me to him, I must be doing something right.”
