Arsenal are in line for a massive windfall from the future sale of their soon-to-be former player Nuno Tavares.

Last summer, Tavares joined Lazio from Arsenal on loan with an obligation to buy for just €5 million if certain conditions are met.

Those conditions have now been met, meaning Tavares will join Lazio permanently at the end of the season.

Arsenal also inserted a sell-on clause into the deal, meaning if Lazio sell on the player the Gunners will receive 40 per cent of the fee.

That is now set to be highly lucrative for Arsenal as Tavares’ value has sky-rocketed after a brilliant season for Lazio.

Corriere dello Sport reports that Lazio value Tavares at €60-65m at the very least.

Were Lazio to sell the left back at that amount Arsenal would be in line to make a further €25m on top of the initial €5m transfer fee.

There is expected to be a lot of interest in the 25-year-old this summer as he has arguably been the best left back in Serie A this season.

He has eight assists this campaign, which makes him the top assists man in the league and one of the best in all of Europe.

Tavares has been a constant force of nature down the left flank, bombarding at speed past the full-back and whipping in dangerous crosses.

His performances have helped a Lazio side who endured something of a revolution last summer up to fifth in the table, just two points off the top four and only eight off the top of the table.

Lazio president Claudio Lotito said earlier this season that he would reject offers of as high as €70m for Nuno Tavares should they arrive.

Nuno Tavares at Arsenal

The Gunners signed the Portuguese left back from Benfica in 2021 for a fee of around €10m.

However, he struggled in his first season at the club – especially in the defensive phase – and was perhaps somewhat unfairly mocked by fans.

Tavares was loaned out to Marseille in the 2022-23 season where he impressed and even managed six goals in Ligue 1.

After Marseille were unable to make his move permanent he spent last season on loan at Nottingham Forest where he again failed to make much of an impact.

This season, though, Tavares appears to have exploded into the player Arsenal hoped they were signing from Benfica.

If he continues these performances, it will not be long until another giant club tries to sign him again.
