Arsenal could enter the transfer market for a new central midfielder before the transfer window slams shut on Monday evening.

The Gunners recently suffered a big setback with Mikel Merino sustaining a serious foot injury. He could be on the sidelines for several weeks.

This is a huge blow for the north London giants, who are competing in four competitions. They desperately need to fill the void left by Merino.

As things stand, the club have no standout targets heading to transfer deadline day and will be intriguing to watch who they could seek to sign.

The Premier League leaders are more likely to focus on a short-term loan deal rather than splashing the cash on a big-money signing.

Arsenal are currently six points clear of Manchester City at the top of the league after the latter’s 2-2 draw against Tottenham Hotspur.

The Gunners will be in Carabao Cup action in midweek. They are scheduled to host Chelsea in the second leg of the semi-final.

The club have a 3-2 aggregate lead from the first leg away.
