Arsenal ‘Starboy’ Saka scores and assists in opening 21 minutes of Champions League debut

Bukayo Saka got Arsenal off to a rapid start in the Champions League, scoring the opening goal in their 4-0 thumping of PSV Eindhoven.

The England international played his first-ever game in the Champions League and needed just eight minutes to get his first goal of the competition.

He followed in from Martin Odegaard’s shot that was saved by Walter Benitez but the PSV goalkeeper could only push it into the path of Saka, who slotted home with his right foot.

Saka then turned provider on 21 minutes, as he teed up Leandro Trossard, who swept the ball past Benitez on the edge of the box following a rapid Gunners counter-attack.

And Gunners fans cannot get enough of the 22-year-old, who already has three goals and four assists this term.

As well as Saka and Trossard, Gabriel Jesus also got on the scoresheet to make it 3-0 before half-time before Martin Odegaard’s fizzing effort in the second half completed the rout.

It has given the Gunners a dream return to the competition after a prolonged absence.

Arsenal have not played in the Champions League since 2017, their previous match seeing them get humiliated by Bayern Munich.

Arsene Wenger was in charge of that side while Saka was just 16 and plying his trade in the youth sides of the Gunners.

Now under Mikel Arteta, the forward looks unstoppable and is one of the first names on the teamsheet.

He started every match last season for Arsenal and has played every minute of this campaign, except one after being taken off at the end of the match against Crystal Palace.
