Evan Ferguson reportedly remains a target for Arsenal as Mikel Arteta gears up to strengthen his striking options ahead of another title race.

The Brighton centre-forward had been one the hottest talents in the Premier League after progressing through the Seagulls’ youth system following a move from Irish side Bohemians in 2021.

He made his debut for the south coast outfit in the 2021-22 season and bagged six goals in 19 Premier League appearances the following campaign.

Last term, he scored the same amount in 27 games before stuttering for Fabian Hurzeler’s team this season, finding the net just once in 14 matches after being sidelined for the start of the campaign thanks to an ankle injury.

Despite his October goal against Wolverhampton Wanderers being his first since last November, many top sides remain keen on the Irish striker.

Now Arsenal have joined those jostling for Ferguson as they look to kick off their January business with a raid for their rivals’ top talent, talkSPORT reports.

Brighton are still weighing up whether to listen to offers for the 20-year-old, who has only started two Premier League matches for the Seagulls this season.

Fulham and West Ham make up a trio of English sides interested in the Irishman with the east London outfit inquiring about a potential loan move for him.

Arsenal, who have benefitted from Gabriel Jesus’s recent uptick in form, are not planning on spending big in January but are considering a move for a number nine under the right circumstances.

Summer could be a busier time for the Gunners, with Newcastle hotshot Alexander Isak and Red Bull Leipzig star Benjamin Sesko among those on their watch list.

Chelsea had shown interest in the centre-forward early last year but Nicolas Jackson’s return to form has cemented his place as number one choice at Stamford Bridge.

Brighton, who are primarily focussing on getting Ferguson back to match fitness, are likely to insist on an obligation clause should any rival come in for him on loan.

Danny Welbeck and Joao Pedro have surged above the young talent in the pecking order as the Seagulls slump to 10th in the league following a winless run of seven games.

According to the Independent, Premier League rivals Fulham are exploring the possibility of a loan move for Ferguson until the end of the season.

Marco Silva’s side reportedly believe they can offer the striker regular game time and strengthen their forward-line.

Hurzeler, however, had attempted to pour cold water on suggestions Ferguson could leave on loan in January.

‘I don’t know from where this information comes because I said to Evan that I am happy he is here with the team,’ Hurzeler said last month, following reports of a potential loan exit.

‘I am happy how he is training, what shape he is in physically, mentally. Of course, he is a young player and needs game time.

‘Accept your role and make sure you bring yourself in the mood and the shape that, when you get the chance, you are ready. It is exactly that which I demand from Evan and also what I said to him. I never said anything to him about a loan or anything like this.’
