Brentford have slapped a price tag of around €71 million on Bryan Mbeumo ahead of the summer transfer window, according to a report.

The Cameroon international has repeatedly impressed for the Bees since assuming the mantle of Ivan Toney as the club’s chief goalscorer. Mbeumo’s current tally for the season stands at an impressive 18 strikes, while he has also provided seven assists.

The 25-year-old has been on the radar of bigger clubs for some time, often being linked with Liverpool as a potential long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah.

Last summer, Arsenal attempted a late swoop for Mbeumo, but the move was blocked by Brentford as they were not given enough time to search for a replacement.

At the time, head coach Thomas Frank openly admitted that he would sign Mbeumo if he were in charge of a top club, and he struck a similar note earlier this week by acknowledging that Brentford ‘are a selling club.’

“I’ve said many times: we are a selling club… So of course if the right price – and that’s going to be expensive – is coming, then I’m sure the club will be open for it. But I’m very happy he’s here, and I’m convinced that Bryan will still be happy playing football here,” the Dane said.

Mbeumo price revealed

The Telegraph now reports that the price for Mbeumo will indeed be a steep one. It is claimed that Brentford will demand as much as €71 million (£60 million) for the 25-year-old in the upcoming window.

Newcastle are said to be huge admirers of Mbeumo, with the outlet claiming that ‘every member’ of the Magpies’ recruitment staff is in agreement that he would be a perfect signing.

However, Newcastle could have second thoughts about pursuing a move for him should Brentford hold firm to their sizeable valuation. As for Arsenal, it was previously reported that they also remain interested.

After failing with their approach last summer, the Gunners enquired once more in January, but with the same result. They will again be in the market for attacking reinforcements this summer, although a right-winger is not the most pressing priority, so a €70m move for Mbeumo seems improbable as things stand.
