Mohammed Kudus has put Champions League clubs such as Arsenal and Liverpool on alert with the news that the West Ham United attacker is ready to leave the club in search of a higher level of football.

It may be early days in the Julen Lopetegui reign at West Ham, but the former Real Madrid boss is struggling to impose his style onto the team, which sits mired in the lower half of the Premier League table – much to Kudus’ disappointment apparently.

The Ghana international star wants to be playing at the elite level, and with the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool monitoring his progress, the Daily Mail claims that he has put such sides on alert that he could leave during the January transfer window.

If Kudus is to depart West Ham, however, there are two major conditions.

The first of these is that the club is vying to play in the Champions League or is already in the competition, the second is that his club are liable to make any interested team trigger his release clause. For Kudus, this sits at a healthy €102 million (£85m).

The Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of the 24-year-old sits significantly below that figure, at just €54.2m, which comes as a reflection of the slowdown in his form over the start of the 2024/25 campaign.

Kudus has also been linked with a potentially lucrative move to the Saudi Pro League in recent days.

A thrilling attacking option

In his debut Premier League season, he was one of the most exciting players in the league, registering eight goals and seven assists – several of them spectacular – as he introduced himself in an eye-catching manner.

This time around, he has been stifled effectively and has just one goal in seven Premier League outings in what is a reflection of the club’s struggles to perform under Lopetegui.

With Arsenal and Liverpool both lacking depth in the wide areas, Kudus, nevertheless, makes sense as a transfer target based on what he showed last time out and his potential to replicate that form in a more effective team.
