AS Roma secure Ferguson deal but Gasperini worried about transfers

Evan Ferguson will become Roma’s second reinforcement this summer, joining the Giallorossi on loan from Brighton, but Gian Piero Gasperini urges the club to complete more new signings as the new season ‘begins in a month.’

Roma have secured the services of Brighton striker Ferguson on loan with an option to buy, according to several sources, including Fabrizio Romano.

According to reports, the 20-year-old forward will move to the Stadio Olimpico on an initial loan deal with an option to buy for €40m.

He’s Roma’s second summer reinforcement after Lens midfielder Neil El Aynaoui, who will undergo medical tests in the capital next week.

This means that Gasperini hasn’t yet worked with any new signings during the pre-season, so the Italian tactician admitted to being worried about the lack of reinforcements so far.

“We’ve had some issues, and now we’re a bit behind schedule. We got here with a few absentees, and we are eager to recover,” Gasperini said on Saturday after a 14-0 win over Trastevere in Roma’s first summer friendly.

“We hope for a push because the club has given great availability. We know what we need to do and what kind of players we are looking for. I expect acceleration in the transfer market.

“The club is working at its best to fill the gaps and create the team I’ve requested.”

Gasperini ‘worried’ about Roma slow transfers

Gasperini spoke to the media just a few hours before Roma reached a full agreement for Ferguson but still admitted being worried.

“A little bit because we’ve been working for eight days, and the season begins in a month, but I’m sure that what we need will be done,” the coach said.

Paulo Dybala returned from an injury, scoring a brace.

“Paulo has arrived well, with a good base of training. Clearly, he still doesn’t kick the ball at his best, but he didn’t show it today,” Gasp concluded (via Corriere dello Sport).
