Aston Villa close in on Middlesbrough forward Morgan Rogers in deal worth up to £16m with medical set for Wednesday… with Man City set to take home 25 per cent of the fee due to sell-on clause

Aston Villa are close to an agreement with Middlesbrough for forward Morgan Rogers.

Mail Sport understands that Villa will pay £8million up front with add-ons worth between £7m and £8m. 

Rogers joined Boro from Manchester City for £1.5m and the Treble winners hold a sell-on clause of 25 per cent. 

There has been a breakthrough in talks today after Villa’s third offer of £7.5m plus add-ons was rejected yesterday.

Boro had been holding out for closer to their £12m valuation with more of the fee paid up front.

Talks have advanced with the player expected to undergo a medical over the next 24 hours once details are finalised.

The 21-year-old has impressed for the Championship side this season, scoring seven goals and providing nine assists in all competitions. 

He only joined Boro in the summer but has thrived under boss Michael Carrick.
