John McGinn’s current contract will expire at the end of next season but the Villans skipper, into his eighth year at the club, is keen to stay
John McGinn is on the verge of penning a fresh contract with Aston Villa. The skipper’s existing agreement runs out after the conclusion of next season, and Villa have been working to tie him down for an extended period.
Since arriving at Villa from Hibernian in the summer of 2018, McGinn has been instrumental in the club’s journey from the Championship to the Champions League last season.
This marks his eighth campaign representing Villa, and The Telegraph reports that he is now anticipated to put pen to paper on an extension. Speaking to BirminghamLive in the summer, McGinn confirmed that he wants to stay at the club for several more years to come.

“It’s gone quickly, but I think what it means for me is that it shows the progression of the club – it hasn’t stood still,” the Scot said of his time in claret and blue so far.
“I’ve managed to go along with the club and improved. I still feel like I’m improving.
“I will now always have the challenge that now I’m 30 – can I keep doing it and can I keep going? But I feel good and I’m enjoying playing here.
“European nights at Villa Park … it is surreal when you think about it. It has been a long time here.
“You never know, maybe a few years more, but that’s up to the club.”
