Atletico Madrid are reportedly reconsidering their interest in Manchester United loanee Mason Greenwood based on the club’s asking price.

The 22-year-old academy United graduate looks set for a move this summer with a number of Champions League clubs monitoring his situation.

Since leaving United on loan in the summer the forward has played an integral part for Jose Bordalas’ Getafe side, registering eight goals and five assists in all competitions during his first season in Spain.

One of the teams most closely linked with Greenwood is Atletico Madrid, with Diego Simeone‘s side said to be keen on bringing the one-cap England international to the Metropolitano Stadium.

However, according to a report from Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo the deal looks set to be complicated by the fee United are demanding.

The publication claims United are determined to sell Greenwood for £49.8million (€58m), a fee the Colchoneros believe is ‘outrageous’.

Mail Sport reported in February that United’s new part-owner and head of football operations Sir Jim Ratcliffe had opened the door for Greenwood to potentially return to Old Trafford.

‘It’s a fresh decision,’ he said.

‘I can talk about the principle. I am not going to talk about Mason. I am familiar with it. The principle is the important one. We will have other issues going forwards.

‘You are dealing with young people who have not always been brought up in the best circumstances, who have a lot of money and they don’t always have the guidance they should have.

‘What we need to do when have issues like that is understand real affects not the hype then we need to make a fair decision in the light of the club’s values. That’s what we need to do and that’s how we will deal with it.’
