Having made 21 appearances for Germany’s U21 national team, Noah Atubolu is hoping to soon take the step up to the senior squad.
Speaking on ZDF, the Freiburg goalkeeper made it clear that he is aiming for a spot in Germany’s squad for the 2026 World Cup.
“Of course, you can say that the World Cup is a goal for me. After the last few months, it would be strange if it wasn’t. Long-term, my goal is to become the national team goalkeeper,” Atubolu said.
He also admitted that early comparisons with Germany legend Manuel Neuer put him under pressure, even though he initially felt flattered.
“The comparisons were completely unrealistic, as I’m by far not as good as Manuel Neuer. He is the best goalkeeper we’ve ever had. I think the comparisons back then weren’t very helpful for me because they shot my own expectations into the stratosphere.”
