Aubameyang Shines in Marseille’s Impressive Win vs. Lyon

It was the Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang show against Lyon, as the veteran striker had a hand in all three goals for Marseille. In the first half, the 34-year-old provided two assists for goals by Vitinha and Amir Murillo, respectively.

Vitinha scored his third Ligue 1 goal this 2023-24 season as the Portugal international looks to build momentum on the offensive end. Meanwhile, Murrillo scored his first with Marseille after coming to the club this past summer.

However, Aubameyang didn’t stop at providing assists and wanted to get on the goal-scoring action himself. The Marseille star scored the third goal early in the second half to put the game out of reach for Lyon.

Aubameyang’s goal also marked the third straight game in which he has scored for Les Phocéens in all competitions. Marseille’s recent success could be credited to the form that Aubameyang has been in to close out 2023.

Marseille, who now sit in eighth place with 20 points, will look to win their third straight Ligue 1 match when they travel to Stade du Moustoir to face FC Lorient. A win over Lorient will put OM in the battle for next season’s European spots.

Additionally, the contest will serve as a tune-up for Gennaro Gattuso and co. before they travel to American Express Stadium for a UEFA Europa League showdown with Brighton & Hove Albion.

As for Lyon, the squad will attempt to regroup as they welcome Toulouse FC to Groupama Stadium. Les Gones must get their season on track as they remain in the relegation zone with seven points.
