A daunting trip north to the Millerntor-Stadion proved too much for FC Augsburg to deal with as they picked up their second Bundesliga defeat of the season.

“The decisive factor was: St.Pauli scored two goals, while we only scored one,” said Augsburg coach Sandro Wagner in the mixed room.

“In the first-half, we had structure and defended well in a deep block. Apart from the penalty, St.Pauli had few chances. We came out of the locker room well, but struggled in transition.

“Our decision-making wasn’t precise enough. In the end, we lost by a penalty – which, in my opinion, was preceded by a foul on Finn Dahmen before the corner – and a free kick.

“Of course we’re sad; we really wanted to win today. It would have been possible, but the details went against us today,” he explained.

The Bavarian club will circle the wagons for a week for training before they welcome Mainz to the WWK Arena next Saturday, September 20.
