Peter Schöttel, sporting director of the Austrian national team, has given his thoughts on Bayern Munich’s interest in Austria coach Ralf Rangnick.

Following reports that Ralf Rangnick had emerged as the frontrunner in Bayern Munich’s search for a new head coach, the Austria coach confirmed on Wednesday that the Bavarians have indeed contacted him.

Austria’s sporting director, Peter Schöttel, has now shared his thoughts on the interest shown in Rangnick, saying he’s optimistic about keeping the 65-year-old at the helm.

In any case, with the Euro approaching, he believes it would be good for all parties to have clarity on the matter as soon as possible.

“He feels very, very comfortable at the ÖFB and appreciates the job. The goals we have achieved in the last two years are a great thing for everyone involved. But when a club like Bayern Munich comes knocking, it is understandable that you think about the interests of this club,” Schöttel told ORF Sport.

“When it comes to financial aspects, he doesn’t have to think about that now. We are trying to implement a lot of his suggestions. He appreciates the work with these players, he appreciates the work with the coaches. It has become a tight-knit community,” added Schöttel.

“We have big goals right before the European Championship. Of course, there will also be a deadline from Bayern Munich, because they want to know as well.”

If Rangnick were to say yes to Bayern, he would have to be involved in planning for next season in the coming months.

“It’s certainly not ideal. But if it comes to it, we will manage. We don’t just have Ralf, we have a really good team around him. We will all help each other if it comes to that,” explained Schöttel.
