Barcelona wonderkid Dro Fernandez has informed Hansi Flick that he will leave the club this month, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Blaugrana are set to lose one of the most exciting prospects from their La Masia academy. Dro Fernandez, who has already made five senior appearances at just 18, has told club chiefs that he is exploring his options.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Dro has made it clear that there are suitors that are willing to trigger his measly €6 million release clause and that he will pursue an opportunity abroad.

As things stand, the teenager has not yet made a decision on his next club, but Romano insists that Dro will not remain in Spain. According to Sport, various European clubs have been courting the youngster in recent days.

Flick was informed of the player’s decision this morning, and the news is said to have caused “unease” at Barcelona. The Catalans were desperate to hand him a new contract and increase his release clause.

Barca to make last-ditch offer?

The situation is currently fluid, but Sport reports that it could yet take a few days for Dro to pick his next club. This potentially gives Barcelona the opportunity to make an improved last-ditch contract offer.

The reigning LaLiga champions are planning to hold a meeting with the midfielder in an attempt to resolve the situation and get him to change his mind. He hasn’t played for the first team since the start of December, which has informed his decision.

Given the sheer number of world-class midfielders at Barca, Dro believes that it is best for his career to move elsewhere. He hasn’t trained with the club in recent days, although that was ostensibly for fitness reasons.

The Catalans are now faced with another Marc Guiu situation. The young striker departed the club for Chelsea in 2024 after breaking into the first team because he, too, only had a €6m release clause.
