Barcelona are set to loan Vitor Roque to Real Betis, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Blaugrana striker’s nightmare is on the verge of ending – at least for this season. Roque joined his dream club in January, but his time at Barcelona has been marred by controversy.

The Brazilian wonderkid barely featured under head coach Xavi amid suggestions that the Spaniard did not want him and this eventually culminated in his agent publically hitting out at Barcelona and threatening a transfer. The hire of Hansi Flick was supposed to defuse the situation, but it has done little to that effect.

What’s more, Barcelona’s dire financial situation means that they have to desperately cut down their wage bill if they want to have any chance of registering marquee signing Dani Olmo, who has already missed the first two games of the new LaLiga campaign.

Roque has been made available for transfer and his next club is now known.

Roque set for Betis

Initially, Barcelona were in talks with Sporting CP over a permanent move for the striker, but Real Betis eventually entered the race with a loan bid for Roque.

It ultimately came down to the player deciding his next destination, with the Brazilian picking the latter. Now, Fabrizio Romano has announced that his move to Real Betis is ‘here we go’ done.

The teenager is on his way to Seville to complete his medical. The final details of the deal will be clarified ‘soon,’ Romano states, as it seemingly won’t just be a simple loan.

Roque was not registered for either of Barcelona’s first two LaLiga outings. The 19-year-old leaves the club having made just 16 appearances – mostly as a substitute – in which he found the back of the net twice.
