Barca have begun making plans to strengthen their squad after activating yet another financial ‘lever’, allowing them to register new signings and ease their financial concerns.

There had initially been fears that summer signing Dani Olmo’s registration status for the second half of the season would be in jeopardy due to Barcelona’s struggles with La Liga’s wage rules but the club are now set to raise around €200 million by selling off VIP seats at the refurbished Camp Nou.

And the La Liga leaders have seemingly wasted no time in utilising their new found freedom, with Jijantes claiming that a deal to sign Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah is ‘practically completed’.

Tah is out of contract at the end of the season and had been strongly linked with a move to Bayern in the summer but the 28-year-old now looks set for Barca after club director Deco met with the player’s representatives in Germany.

Barca’s are said to have held a long-standing desire for Tah and his availability on a free transfer saw Deco fly to Cologne in a meeting which left both parties ‘very happy’.

Barca pull off coup from under Bayern’s nose

Tah joined Bayer Leverkusen in 2015 and was instrumental in their maiden Bundesliga win last season but the German international has been reluctant to extend his stay with the champions.

Bayern had reached a personal agreement to sign Tah in the summer but they could not strike a deal with Leverkusen over a fee and the deal eventually collapsed, however there was optimism that they would instead sign the defender when his contract expires.

Instead, Barca have allegedly sealed an important signing on a free transfer to provide competition and quality in defence, having seen a host of injuries in the area this season.

Barca are now expected to push on with more signings next year after resolving some of their financial issues, with a striker such as Erling Haaland believed to be high on their list of priorities next summer.
