However, the Blaugrana remain one of the most well-known and recognisable clubs in world football, and they are still seen as a dream destination for most players, despite their recent monetary issues.

Who is the current Barcelona manager?

Xavi is the current Barcelona manager. He was appointed after Ronald Koeman was sacked in October 2021. The Spaniard, who spent 17 years as a senior player at Camp Nou, was turned to after an impressive stint in charge of Qatari side Al Sadd. He spent the final four seasons of his professional career as a player at Al Sadd, and became the club’s manager upon retiring in 2019.

Xavi replaced Koeman after the Dutchman’s poor start to the 2021/22 season. He took over with the side in ninth place in La Liga, but an impressive turnaround under the former Spain international saw Barcelona finish the campaign in second place.

He won his first trophy as Blaugrana boss in January 2023, with a 3-1 Supercopa de España victory over Real Madrid. Xavi backed that up with the 2022/23 La Liga title to end Barcelona’s three-year drought without winning the top flight.
