Quique Setien has revealed that he is still owed money by Barcelona four years after his sacking.
The club’s financial difficulties are well documented and Barcelona continue to suffer the consequences of the mismanagement of previous regimes. In the summer, several stars had to be offloaded on short notice just so that marquee signing Dani Olmo could be registered for LaLiga.
Barcelona’s economic situation has improved in recent times, but the Catalans are not out of the woods yet despite the public assertions of president Joan Laporta.

Players like Frenkie de Jong have had their wages deferred in recent years to aid the club, while former midfielder Ilkay Gundogan expressed his hope in the summer that his return to Man City after just a year would help the club balance the books.
News of Barcelona’s troubles continue to abound and one of their former coaches has now revealed that he is still receiving compensation from the club a whole four years after his exit.
Barca still paying Setien
Quique Setien took the reins at the Camp Nou in 2020 but ultimately lasted just eight months in the dugout before being replaced by former Blaugrana player Ronald Koeman.
Setien got the job off the back of some excellent work at Real Betis and felt that the environment in Catalunya was perfect for his footballing philosophy. Things, however, did not turn out great for him and he has now spoken about his experience.

“For me, because I feel football and so on, coaching Barca is something special,” he told Cadena SER. “It’s the best, being able to coach a team that plays the way you like, without having to arrive and start working on something that they haven’t done.”
On a less positive note, Setien was forced to admit that the club still owe him money. “I have not yet finished receiving the money from Barca, but I still have a deadline that expires at the end of this month, four years later.”
