FSV Mainz 05 fell victim to a second-half brace from Ragnar Ache this afternoon – Daniel Batz reacted to the 2-1 defeat in the mixed zone.

“When you’re leading here, you have to take something away from the game,” said the 35-year-old shot-stopper.

“Unfortunately, we missed our chance to score a second goal in the first half, and after the break, we really struggled to relieve the pressure with the ball.

“After they [Köln] equalized, we did have our chances again, but it’s clear that we generally can’t become so passive after taking the lead.

“I don’t have an explanation for it right now. We wanted to stay active and push for a second goal. This defeat hurts,” said Batz.

Mainz will hope they can bounce back to winning ways as they host VfL Wolfsburg next Saturday afternoon, January 24, at 15:30 CET.
