Bayer Leverkusen
After winning their final five league games of 2024, Leverkusen have picked up from where they left off, starting the calendar year with back-to-back victories. Die Werkself claimed a 3-2 away victory over Borussia Dortmund, before they recorded a narrow win in Tuesday’s home against against Mainz. Álex Grimaldo’s second-half effort proved enough to seal a 1-0 victory, ensuring second-placed Leverkusen stayed within four points of leaders Bayern Munich.
The result also extended their unbeaten run to 15 top-flight matches, meaning they have gone over four months since they suffered their only league defeat of the season against RB Leipzig. Die Werkself will now be fully focused on Saturday’s fixture, with the hosts looking to complete a league double over Gladbach after collecting a 3-2 away victory in the reverse fixture in August. In fact, Leverkusen have avoided defeat in each of their last 10 meetings with Gladbach (W8, D2), although they have drawn their last two head-to-head home matches.

Gladbach
Gladbach head into the weekend in 11th position after winning seven, drawing three and losing seven of their 17 league matches this season. Die Fohlen experienced a strong end to 2024, taking seven points from their final three league games before the international break. However, they are still waiting to add to their points tally after losing their opening two games of 2025. Gladbach began the year with a narrow 1-0 home defeat against Bayern Munich, before they fell to a heavy 5-1 loss in Tuesday’s away meeting with Wolfsburg.
As a result, die Fohlen have now lost two of their last three away league matches, while they have won just one of their previous seven Bundesliga games on the road (D2, L4). With that in mind, they will have their work cut out to claim all three points in Saturday’s fixture, especially as they have not beaten Leverkusen since recording a 2-1 away victory in November 2019.
