Back in October, both Bild and Sky Germany reported that Bayern Munich were monitoring FC Köln goalkeeper Jonas Urbig and that the Bavarians had already made loose inquiries about the 21-year-old.

Now, Urbig is being linked with a move to the Bavarians once again, with Kicker reporting that the Germany Under-21 international is “high up” on their list of transfer targets.

The Bayern bosses are said to be toying with the idea of signing a young goalkeeper next summer who would spend the 2025/26 season being groomed to replace Neuer. They believe Urbig fits the bill, and Manuel Neuer is said to be keen on the idea.

Neuer’s current contract expires in 2025, but is expected to be extended until 2026, at which point the 39-year-old could retire.

Bayern have Alexander Nübel returning from a two-year spell with Stuttgart in 2026, but they don’t seem convinced the 28-year-old has what it takes to become the new number one.

With Neuer out with a broken rib and Sven Ulreich unavailable for personal reasons, Israeli goalkeeper Daniel Peretz has started Bayern’s last two games.
