Bayern boss considers closing entire Südkurve after UEFA bans

The decision could lead to some fan unrest if Bayern bosses decide to close the South Stand at the Allianz Arena entirely in their next Champions League game.

After incurring UEFA fines and supporter bans last month, Jan-Christian Dreesen says Bayern Munich is considering closing the entire Südkurve against Union Saint-Gilloise. 

The ban imposed for fan offences committed in games against Sporting Lisbon and Arsenal are set to be brought into effect against the Belgian side by closing four blocks in the stand.

“We will have to close blocks 111 to 114. But we are seriously considering closing the entire Südkurve. We’ve already discussed that, but haven’t made a final decision yet.

“We could easily say we close it [Südkurve] completely. But then it will affect people who weren’t involved at all. In that case, we would offer a refund to those not standing in blocks 111 to 114. 

“We don’t want to allow those who should be affected [by the ban] to somehow manage to get tickets elsewhere. I was really annoyed. It was completely unnecessary.

“Especially when you know you’re on probation because of the incidents in the Champions League match against Leverkusen last season. 

“I would strongly appeal to those who regularly use pyrotechnics to perhaps realize that they are harming the club. And that it is not tolerated or accepted by the majority of fans in the stadium,” Dreesen added.

Should the decision be made to close the stand entirely, the Bayern CEO could estrange their relationship with the Bavarian club’s hardcore supporters who grace the Südkurve.
