Bayern Munich sporting director Christoph Freund is confident that Thomas Müller will continue his playing career after his contract with the club expires at the end of the season.

“I’m convinced it’s not over, and that he has the energy to take on something new,” Freund told Sky following Bayern’s 2–2 draw with Borussia Dortmund.

The 35-year-old veteran has been linked with a move to the United States in particular, but it’s still not clear what he’ll do beyond the summer.

“He’s thinking it over,” Freund said, adding:

“No matter where he goes, he’ll be an asset to that club.”

A similar, though more cautious, assessment came from Müller’s longtime teammate Joshua Kimmich.

“I get the sense he still really enjoys playing football,” said Kimmich.

“Thomas and I have had a few conversations. It’s hard to comment or evaluate. So far, he hasn’t said anything – we’ll see what his plans are,” added the Germany captain.
