With Paul Wanner set to complete his move to PSV, Bayern chief Max Eberl has sent the youngster off with criticism.

After spending the last two seasons out on loan, Paul Wanner is set to depart Bayern Munich on a permanent basis, with the 19-year-old’s move to PSV nearing completion.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Bayern board member for sport Max Eberl criticized the attacking midfielder for not meeting expectations and for doubting his own chance of breaking through at Säbener Straße.

“We want to believe in players and work with players who are eager to become Bayern Munich players. And that involves taking steps. And it also takes courage,” Eberl told reporters.

“It comes down to players who want to improve, who want to face challenges,” he continued.

“In attack, we are relatively thin, and anyone can see that. If a player still doesn’t believe in their chance, then you have to make a decision.”

According to Sky, Bayern will receive around €15 million for Wanner in a deal that includes a buyback option.

“If it’s not working out, we as a club have to make decisions and also consider the player’s interests. And with PSV, we’ve found a very, very good solution. And, crucially, we still have access to the player. He’s not completely gone.”
