Bayern Munich board member for sport Max Eberl has dismissed criticism that new signing Luis Díaz is too old at 28.

Last week, Bayern Munich finally completed the signing of Luis Díaz from Liverpool for a reported fee of €70 million, excluding bonuses.

Some critics have questioned the price tag, pointing to the Colombian international’s age of 28.

But Bayern board member for sport Max Eberl has dismissed those concerns.

“Our goal has to be to strike a good balance in the squad’s age structure, but in the end, it simply comes down to quality,” Eberl told Kicker.

“Age is just one of ten or fifteen factors that play a role in a transfer.

“He brings everything we need – pace, goals, assists, one-on-one quality, and high reliability, meaning as many appearances as possible.”

Díaz made his unofficial debut for Bayern in Saturday’s 2-1 friendly win over Olympique Lyon.
