After losing out to Bayer Leverkusen in the title race, Bayern Munich have congratulated their rivals.

Bayer Leverkusen’s title triumph on Sunday brought to an end a remarkable run of 11 consecutive league titles for Bayern Munich.

In a statement reacting to Leverkusen’s title win, Bayern president Herbert Hainer, CEO Jam-Christian Dreesen and board member for sport Max Eberl congratulated their rivals, while stressing that their highest priority will be to get back to the top next season.

“Congratulations to Bayer Leverkusen on a historic first Bundesliga title in the club’s history. The title goes absolutely deservedly to Leverkusen – it’s the reward for an outstanding season and great football. The goal for FC Bayern now is: the trophy must come back to Munich! We’ll see each other in the new season,” said Hainer.

Dreesen added that he believes Leverkusen have had a “flawless season so far”.

“The team have demonstrated courage, class and above all consistency, and that’s why they deserve to be 2024 German champions. I’d also like to offer my personal congratulations to my counterpart Fernando Carro as well as our former player Xabi Alonso. However, one thing’s for sure: we take this as a direct incentive to work even harder and not rest until the trophy is back on Säbener Straße in Munich,” he said.

Eberl commented:

“Bayer Leverkusen have had an outstanding season, so it’s clear that we as Bayern Munich wanted to be one of the first to congratulate. Particular congratulations to Xabi Alonso, his coaching staff and the whole team. Your football has wowed the Bundesliga. FC Bayern’s run is ended, but now we’ll put everything into attacking again.”
