Bayern Munich sporting director Christoph Freund has told Liverpool that the Bundesliga giants intend to keep hold of Michael Olise ‘for the next nine years.’

The 23-year-old is currently enjoying a brilliant run of form with the seemingly unbeatable Munich outfit. Olise has notched five goals and six assists in 10 appearances across all competitions to date.

The France international is quickly becoming one of Europe’s marquee wide forwards, and this is naturally engendering transfer speculation. Olise only joined Bayern last year, but rumours are already linking him with a departure.

Liverpool have reportedly earmarked him as the perfect long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah, while PSG are said to dream of adding him to their hugely exciting French frontline. Real Madrid, too, have become infatuated with the tricky attacker.

However, Bayern are in a strong negotiating position. Unlike Harry Kane and Jamal Musiala, Olise does not have a release clause in his contract, and his deal still runs until 2029. Talks over an early extension, to reward him for his stunning form, are also set to begin shortly.

Bayern want to keep Olise for the next decade

Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund, the right-hand man of recruitment boss Max Eberl, appeared on Sky90’s discussion panel at the weekend to talk about a variety of topics, including the future of Olise.

Unsurprisingly, the Austrian was bullish about the Munich outfit’s prospects of keeping the Frenchman long-term. “He’s really hit the ground running [this season], Freund said. “He’s taken another step forward.

“We could well imagine him playing with us in Munich for the next seven, eight, nine years,” he added before insisting that the club is under “no pressure” to hand him a new contract, given that he only joined in 2024.

Whether Bayern will actually manage to keep hold of Olise for the next decade remains to be seen. If he continues on his current trajectory, he will surely outgrow the Bundesliga and eventually become keen on a new challenge elsewhere.
