Bayern defeat Freiburg as record-breaker Müller bags late goal to ensure victory

The final act in the German top flight before the international break pitted Bayern Munich against SC Freiburg. The Bavarians made it two wins from two under new head coach Vincent Kompany after a 2-0 win over SC Freiburg.

Vincent Kompany got his first taste of Bundesliga victory at the Allianz Arena as his side overcame a spirited and defensively stout SC Freiburg. The first warming shot arrived early as Harry Kane rattled the side netting. Michael Olise was next to try his luck, warming the fingers of Florian Müller in the Freiburg goal. 

Freiburg held their own but the resistance finally snapped shortly after the half-hour mark. A 37th-minute corner met by Kane would strike the hand of Max Rosenfelder who attempted to put the Englishman under pressure. Arbiter, Bastion Dingert, had a straightforward decision to make by pointing go the spot. A first goal of the 24-25 Bundesliga campaign for Kane who sent Müller the wrong way.

Bayern’s dominance continued until roughly the hour mark when the Breisgauers arose from their slumber. Grifo’s freekick found Kübler but Neuer was alive to the danger. Minutes later Patrick Osterhage’s effort was partially blocked by Kim Min-Jae on its way to the veteran German goalkeeper who parried to safety. 

Entering the final quarter of the action, Musiala and Coman combined albeit to no avail as the Frenchman blazed wide. However the outcome of the game seemed written in the stars. On his 710th-apperance for the Bavarian giants, Thomas Müller fired a left-footed strike into the upper right corner. Serge Gnabry’s pass proving pivotal in setting up the veteran to seal all three points. 

A consolation penalty fell the way of Freiburg late on as Joao Palhinha coughed up a cheap handball in stoppage time. Ultimately, Höler fired over the crossbar from the spot to leave the scores unchanged, as Bayern coasted home with their clean sheet intac at a packed Allianz Arena.
