Bayern doubtful of Leão’s dedication to defence, BILD reports

Die Rekordmeister feel the attacker’s defensive work ethic could do with considerable improvement.

According to BILD, back on May 30, there was a meeting between Bayern and Rafael Leão’s agents in Munich.

Max Eberl has also already discussed the club’s vision with the player in a phone call. Since then, there has been no further contact.

Among their concerns regarding the Portuguese star, Bayern see a deficit in his defensive work and briefly considered other options.

However, there are now plans to resume the talks with Leão with a number of reasons behind the decision to reignite interest. 

A key factor comes after careful consideration that Bayern’s preferred candidates Nico Williams and Bradley Barcola are difficult to get.

Within the club, there’s hope that Vincent Kompany would improve Leão’s defensive work should he join the Bavarian giants. 

Furthermore, the Portuguese is a versatile attacker who can be deployed not only on the wing, but also upfront if needed.
