The footballing world came to a standstill today to mourn the loss of two stars in a tragic accident.

Amid their preparations for the Club World Cup quarter-final in Orlando, Bayern Munich held a minutes silence at training.

With two Portuguese members in their squad in Raphaël Guerreiro and João Palhinha, it was an emotional moment for the players.

Bayern Munich’s former player and fluent Portuguese speaker Eric Dier spoke about the tragic incident.

“It’s incredibly shocking news that I think has caught everyone by surprise,” he said in a press conference at his new club AS Monaco.

“Obviously and most importantly is to send our condolences, strength and love to his family first and foremost.

“It’s very difficult to find any other words other than that. I never knew him personally but know people that played with him.

“They [his teammates] always spoke very highly of him, so I’m sure he and his brother will be missed. Sending all our love to his family,” he added.
