Bayern vs. Frankfurt preview: Can Eintracht shock the Bavarians?

In one of the big top six battles on Matchday 31, Frankfurt travel to Bayern who now have their full focus on the Champions League ahead.

Bayern

Bayern must avoid looking ahead to their salivating matchup against Real Madrid on Tuesday and focus on a decent Frankfurt team this weekend. The Bundesliga title is gone, but with one more league victory, the Bavarians can at least wrap up a place in the top four.

Eric Dier and Matthijs de Ligt will likely pair together in center defense with Leon Goretzka and Aleksander Pavlovic in midfield. Harry Kane is still after Robert Lewandowski’s record of 41 goals in a Bundesliga season, but he needs eight more in four games to at least tie the record.

Thomas Tuchel commented, “It’s been a very good week of training and the energy is very good. You can tell the games against Arsenal gave us confidence. We made a lot of changes against Union and yet still won comfortably, which gave us vindication. We’re ready to step up tomorrow.”

Team News

Leroy Sane, Kingsley Coman, Serge Gnabry, Sacha Boey, Tarek Buchmann and Bouna Sarr are unavailable. Dayot Upamecano is doubtful, while Jamal Musiala is expected to start if all goes to plan.

Frankfurt

Eintracht have been dropping points left and right with only one win in their last five league matches. They have a five-point lead over 7th-place Freiburg, but still need more points to close out the season and claim European football.

It’s a brutal end to the campaign for Frankfurt who play Leverkusen, Gladbach and Leipzig following Bayern. The big news of the week is that the club has signed Hugo Ekitike on a permanent deal and he’s expected to start again up front on Matchday 31.

In his presser, Dino Toppmöller said, “We are the underdogs, but parking the bus wouldn’t suit Eintracht Frankfurt or me. We need good sharpness and a good shape.”

Team News

Tuta will return from a suspension, while Fares Chaibi is questionable with a sickness. Nacho Ferri, Sasa Kalajdzic, Sebastian Rode and Mehdi Loune are out.
