The competition, held before the start of the Bundesliga season between the German league champions and DFB-Pokal holders, will debut under its new name on August 16th, 2025.

As per reports from BILD, a fundamental agreement has already been reached, whilst some formalities need to be finalised.

The decision to rename the tournament followed extensive deliberation. However, the planned collaboration between the DFB and DFL is now seen as a symbolic gesture for the iconic Franz Beckenbauer.

The arguable face of German football passed away on the 7th of January this year.

Beckenbauer captained the German national team to victory in the 1974 World Cup and left a long-standing impact on world football, not just in his native Germany.
