Beier on Kovac: “He trusted me and I finally played in the right position”

Here’s what Maximilian Beier had to say in his latest interview regarding Borussia Dortmund’s season and his personal experiences.

Speaking to local media Ruhr Nachrichten, Borussia Dortmund striker Maximilian Beier spoke fondly about the club’s head coach Niko Kovac.

The German youngster mentioned how Kovac raised expectations and how he coped with the pressure of joining a club like BVB last summer.

“Karim said it after Leverkusen: ‘He kicked our arse.’ That did us all a lot of good. We now run a lot. Before, during and after training. The sessions are very intense.

“When Niko Kovac asked the team what positions they wanted to play in, I only wrote ‘striker’ on the paper. Kovac trusted me and I finally played in the right position.”

“I moved to a club that had just been Champions League finalists and almost German champions before that. I wanted to join one of the best teams in the world.”

“Then I was the new player and things weren’t ideal for me. You start to worry about that. But I took my time and arrived,” Beier explained.

Die Schwarzgelben are on the verge of a miraculous season recovery to reach the Champions League. Although he won’t be available, Beier is excited for Saturday’s game against Holstein Kiel.

“I can’t wait for the game to come on. I’ll be watching it from the stands with the suspended Pascal Groß.

“We have been very strong with the ball in the last six games have run more than 120 kilometres. The boys will give everything,” he added.
