Real Madrid superstar Jude Bellingham has named Jamie Bynoe-Gittens as one of his three favourites to win the 2024 Golden Boy award.
Bellingham, 20, won this year’s accolade after a stunning year with Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid, and he believes his former club team-mate has a great chance of emerging victorious next year.
Despite his obvious talent, Bynoe-Gittens has been unable to break into the Dortmund starting XI on a regular basis since he joined the club from Manchester City in 2020, but he has Bellingham’s backing following the pair’s time together at the Signal Iduna Park.
Bynoe-Gittens has two goals and three assists in just nine appearances so far this season, while he has racked up only four starts in the 2023-24 Bundesliga campaign.
Despite this, the young Englishman signed a new contract at Dortmund in October and he is being chased by both Arsenal and Chelsea.
The former have been linked with a move for Bynoe-Gittens by a number of publications, including German outlet BILD, while Fichajes have stated that Chelsea are also monitoring the attacking midfielder.
Bellingham backs Bynoe-Gittens for Golden Boy glory
After being announced as the 2023 Golden Boy winner in November, Bellingham finally picked up the award in Turin on December 4.
Before the ceremony, he was interviewed by Italian newspaper Tuttosport, who founded the event in 2003. The Real Madrid star was asked who he believes will win the award next year.
“Excluding us from 2003 due to age limits – by the way, I send a greeting to my friend Jamal Musiala of Bayern, who came second, and with whom I shared the locker room of the English youth national teams for about three years – I’ll say three names,” Bellingham replied.
“First of all, Arda Guler, who has now recovered from the injuries that prevented him from making his debut for Real: he is a phenomenon, we see him in training and we are enchanted by him.
“Then my former teammate Jamie Bynoe-Gittens from Borussia Dortmund. And finally my brother Jobe, a thoroughbred striker like our father.”
Currently, Bellingham’s brother is ineligible for the award as the winner must play for a club in the top tier of any European nation. Sunderland are in the Championship, but Jude answered back by saying: “If the Black Cats were to rise to the Premier League, watch out for him!”
