Ben Godfrey wanted by Sheffield United on loan

Sheffield United have made an approach to sign Atalanta defender Ben Godfrey on loan, reports from the UK claim.

According to FootballInsider, the Blades are interested in adding the former Everton player to their ranks, as they aim to win promotion back to the Premier League.

Ben Godfrey move to Atalanta has not turned out as expected

There was some shock last summer when Atalanta signed Godfrey from Everton for a reported fee of around £10 million. The club had been interested in the Englishman in January 2024 but a move supposedly fell through. La Dea would move again, this time successfully, for the former Norwich defender in June.

The centre-back made just five appearances for Atalanta in all competitions, with just one match in Serie A, before he was loaned to Ipswich Town in January. Godfrey made just 3 appearances for the Tractor Boys in the Premier League and Ipswich were relegated.

Now, Sheffield United may offer the 27-year-old a chance to prove himself; a much-needed opportunity for the two-time England international to get his career back on track.
